Argentine President Cristina Kirchner announced yesterday that she'll soon be the godmother to a lesbian couple's child.
Karina Villaroel and Soledad Ortiz, who had their baby on Jan. 27, reached out to Kirchner through Facebook. Krichner saw the message and agreed to be the godmother for the couple's newborn.
"Cristina has agreed to be godmother," Villaroel told reporters. "What a great gesture! I hope she can come to the [baptism] ceremony and does not send a representative. It's a dream come true for us."
Argentina legalized same-sex marriage in 2010, making it the first Latin American country to do so.
